As promised

So even though the kitchen has been done for months, you poor people have not seen it. Ready to oooo and ahhh?

First up can I just say how nice it is to have a sink and faucet back in the kitchen? It was Grrreat!

Especially when we did not need to hike to the bathroom for tea water. Oh poor me having to walk a few extra steps for clean water delivered to my house.

Jack really likes the new countertop area. He found he cannot jump very well off of the new flooring so he only jumps from the dining room side. Which means half of my counter space is safe from kitty paw prints. 

The new kitchen is just what I wanted. We decided the wine rack area is of more use to us if we use it as a tea rack instead. 

 Now it is starting to get the lived in look. Which I think is better because I can bake in it now. I did have a moment of trepidation before I used my cast iron skillet on my new stove top. D just looked at me and said are you going to get rid of your cast iron?

No.

Then you should just use it. And so far it has worked well for me. I am very careful not to slide pans across the top, but then I already was programed to not slide things. All's well.

I love it and am so happy we did it. One of my baking days I will show off my new baking area. It has been too hot to bake so maybe in a few weeks. 

Where were we?

Oh yes the appliances.

It started to feel like a real kitchen when most of the appliances were installed.

Then the sink and countertop people showed up.

Then it really got real! 

We were so very close to getting back to normal. 

Even Jack was so happy he had to go tip toeing through the tulips, I mean across the cooktop.

I don't think Gus is to blame for those foot prints. I am pretty sure he can not leap higher than a footstool.

Next up

Way back when our counters were being measured I came home to find we had new floors going in. We had been told this would be one of the last things they did but nope they came early!

It started to resemble a real kitchen only without the plumbing. I missed plumbing!

You see I am planning on making this my baking cabinet. See the sparkle in my eye? I'm dreaming of tasty baked goods.

The saga continued

When we last left our intrepid home owners the kitchen was kaput!

Every day was an adventure. What was worked on today? One day we came home and we had upper cabinets and a wider entrance way. It was a very exciting day.

The next day we came home we had lower cabinets.

Then the cabinets magically sprouted handles. 

Next they sprouted curious kittens.

OK so the kitten was not from the cabinets, he was just allowed to do a wee bit of exploring.

I'm not sure which I loved the most, my dining room table taking up most of the living room or all the microwave meals. I think I exceeded my allowed salt intake a few days. At least I did not feel like we were burning through all our money by eating out all the time.

That is one heck of a cluster. 

Next time we get measured for counter tops. I can hardly wait.

On going

So when we last heard from our heroes (that would be me and D) they had one ripped up kitchen. Let's see what has happened since then.

Ah yes the decision that requires home work, new paint color selection.

I don't want to give away any spoilers but it is safe to assume the bigger color splotch is the color we liked best. The other one was a bit yellow and totally fades into nothingness in my opinion.

We had the old fluorescent light fixture removed.

And covered over. No more weird flickering light for us!

You can see the recessed lighting installed and the paint has gone up. Don't our old fridge and stove look especially pathetic sitting in the middle of the room?

However Jack always looks at the good in any situation. Especially when it includes big cardboard boxes for him to sit on. Why yes my home is in total chaos!

Well it looks like the recessed lighting is properly placed.

And since the boxes had disappeared, Jack found new ways to get into trouble.

Not bad for a little old man that is not quite as old as his elderly brother, Gus.

Check back again as our kitchen saga continues. You do all know there will be a big delay in posting the final pictures? I'm gonna bake my brains out for a couple of weeks once the kitchen is done. Ooh pictures of my baking on the new pretty counter tops. Oh I can barely wait! I've already pulled out my copy of King Arthur's Flour Baker's Companion and marked pages for testing. I am so going to make pineapple upside down cake, finally. I don't even know if I will like it, but I'm gonna try it.

Quiet...or not

Really I have a couple of good reasons for being quiet here, but let me show you the one that says the most. 

This was my kitchen about a month ago.

  Yeah I know the 70's called and they don't want that kitchen either.

Then in one day my kitchen disappeared.

OK fine I marched on and made scones one more time in here. But once the choking dust puffed in I was done.

I officially hate cooking all my food in the microwave too. Hate it! I am very thankful to have it but it is wearing thin at this point. I miss real food not heavily salted food.

I have not uploaded more recent pictures wherein my kitchen starts to look like a kitchen again. It is thrilling I tell you, Thrilling!

Jack is more thrilled by the notion that he does not have to stay locked in a room with his brother. Closed doors are the Devil's work in his opinion.

Gus is taking the chaos better than I hoped. But don't tell him that, it will only lead to bigger Greenies demands. And that bill is pretty darn high as is.

Speaking of Greenies someone is giving me "The Look" right now. I don't even want to contemplate the consequences of unfilled Greenies demands.
